Results from round 5:
GM Fabiano Caruana – GM Vladimir Kramnik draw
GM Hikaru Nakamura – GM Levon Aronian draw
GM Sergey Karjakin – GM Viswanathan Anand draw
Three draws in the last round secured the victory to Anand who had no problems in his game to secure a draw with the black pieces against Karjakin and he was the fully deserved tournament winner playing safe with black and aggressively with white. Anand has been very successful recently. Remember that he won the qualification tournament convincingly and then was entitled to play a world championship match against Carlsen in the end of last year, a match he narrowly lost. He won in Bilbao, London, failed in Baden-Baden and won now in Zürich. Anand may very well be the challenger to Carlsen in 2016. He is proving again and again that he is one of the best players in the world today. His only weakness seems to be his nerves which failed him in the last world championship match.
Final standings in the Classical tournament:
GM Viswanathan Anand, India (2797) 7 p.
GM Hikaru Nakamura, U.S. (2776) 6 p.
GM Vladimir Kramnik, Russia (2783) 5 p.
GM Sergey Karjakin, Russia (2760) 4 p.
GM Fabiano Caruana, Italy (2811) 4 p.
GM Levon Aronian, Armenia (2777) 4 p.
