What if Reuben Fine’s Chess the Easy Way still holds the key to modern endgames?
In this video I analyse the dramatic finish between Divya Deshmukh and Sanan Sjugirov in the 9th round of the FIDE Grand Swiss 2025, and compare it with Ding Liren’s World Championship match against Gukesh in 2024. In both cases, the outcome might have been different had Fine’s principle been remembered: bishops belong in the subsidiary centre, knights in the centre.
